Project Baseline Midwest

UNITED STATES

Project Name: Project Baseline Midwest

Country: United States

Project Manager:  Marcus Doshi

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This project is located in the Midwest USA, focusing on the Great Lakes, with future expansion to adjacent sites. The Great Lakes are facing many threats (zebra and quagga mussel infestation, for example) and our group, Midwest Underwater Explorers, will document temperature and visibility via a two pronged approach beginning at our first site, southern Lake Michigan. The first is to install temperature data recorders on shipwrecks, data from which will be downloaded on an annual basis. The second is to install a series of “citizen science” visibility and temperature logging stations alongside popular shipwrecks. For these, dive boats will carry info cards so anyone diving those wrecks can gather temperature and visibility info and upload them via QR code to a database.

HOW TO SUBMIT DATA

There are two ways to submit data to the Project Baseline database. You can submit data for existing projects, and you can submit data for projects that are not currently hosted (ad-hoc) in the database.
