UPPER
SURE Lake
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Uppersure Lake, also known as Lac de la Haute Sûre, is an artificial reservoir located in the Oesling in the canton of WILTZ. The lake was built in 1957 by damming the Upper Sure river. The main purpose of the reservoir is to provide drinking water. It is also used to generate hydroelectric and control flooding. The lake is surrounded by the Upper Sure Natural Park and it is the largest body of water in Luxembourg. The sea is a popular destination for various recreational activities as diving, swimming, sailing, kayaking, fishing and hiking. Divers appreciate the sunken roads, bridges and remains of houses and mills, that were in the valley before construction of the dam. All divers from luxembourg come together in this lake, as it is only lake in our country. We would like to document long term changes in visibility, temperature, faune & flore of the lake and in the future work on photogrammetry on the sunken historic ruins that remain in the lake. https://stau.sacw.org/
