Zwei große Tendenzen waren im Zuge dieser Entwicklung zu verzeichnen: eine verstärkte Orientierung an der Lebenswelt der Hilfebedürftigen einerseits, andererseits eine damit einhergehende Erweiterung des Leistungsspektrums der „Hilfen zur Erziehung“. Diese Entwicklung reagierte damit folgerichtig auf einen gestiegenen und differenzierteren Bedarf an Hilfen, als auch auf einen zunehmenden Kostendruck. Im Zusammenhang mit den Veränderungen in der Jugendhilfe entstanden neue Hilfekonzepte, zu denen die Aufsuchende Familientherapie (im Folgenden: AFT) zu zählen ist.

Diese shape der Therapie hat ihren Vorläufer in der „Home-Based relatives remedy“ und wird seit den 1990er in zunehmendem Maße in Deutschland praktiziert. Das Wesentliche in der Arbeitsweise der AFT besteht darin, die Klienten in ihrer Lebenswelt zu erreichen. Vor Ort soll mit den Hilfebedürftigen gemeinsam nach Lösungen für bestehende Probleme gesucht werden. Die Therapie ist dabei auf das Klientel der „Multiproblemfamilien“ ausgerichtet. Eine therapeutische Versorgung dieser Zielgruppe ist bisher nur sehr begrenzt vorhanden.

Die zentrale Fragestellung der vorliegenden Arbeit ergibt sich aus dem Drei-Punkt-Verhältnis von Jugendhilfe, Aufsuchender Familientherapie und deren Klientel und lässt sich wie folgt formulieren: In welchem Selbstverständnis und in welchem Kontext arbeitet die AFT mit so genannten „Multiproblemfamilien“? Daraus ergeben sich für die Beantwortung zwei zentrale Schwerpunkte. In einem ersten Teil wird es in den Kapiteln 1 und 2 zum einen darum gehen, den Kontext auszuleuchten, in dem sich AFT bewegt und zum anderen darum, aufzuzeigen wie bisher mit Multiproblemfamilien gearbeitet wird. Ziel des zweiten Teiles ist es, in einem abgerundeten Bild die Arbeitsweise der AFT zu erfassen, die in den Kapiteln three und four abgehandelt wird. Die hierbei begleitenden Fragen lauten: In welchen Schulen ist die AFT verwurzelt und was once sind ihre Prinzipien? Worauf orientiert sie ihr Vorgehen? Wie geht sie mit den Schwierigkeiten in der Arbeit mit Multiproblemfamilien um? Und schließlich: Wie lässt sie sich im Verhältnis zu anderen Hilfeformen einordnen, d.h. was once ist das Besondere und „Neue“ an ihr?
