In my opinion, the Sky Atlas 2000.0 and Companion are the ideal intermediate step for most amateur astronomers who want to really get to know the sky in some detail. He has been teaching science all of his adult life in planetariums, nature centers, classrooms and at the Rainwater Observatory & Planetarium in French Camp. The photo attached showed the 2005YU55 as at 10.30pm local time when it was located at RA 00h 59m 16.27s and Dec +19d 21m 57.1s (J2000). Notice how it appears lower on the horizon each night and is soon completely gone.

The life expectancy of comets varies widely. Scientists refer to a comet that is expected to burn out or impact the sun within two hundred years as a short period comet whereas a long period comet has a life expectancy of over two hundred years. So for the sake of having some really good trivia to toss around at astronomy club next week, let’s highlight some of the big moments in the history of astronomy.
