This is a frequency scale; it is not a rating scale about how satisfied the observer is with the leader or how well the leader thinks he or she displays the behavior. In Leading Apple with Steve Jobs, he writes that “ Isaacson’s Steve is not the Steve I knew.” He believes that there has been too much focus on the negative aspects of how Jobs dealt with people and not enough on the positive. “I think,” he writes, “most people who worked for him, including me, would say they did the best work of their lives for him and don’t regret the experience a bit.” While his stories regarding his time with Jobs don’t do much to polish his image, he does bring out aspects of his thinking that undoubtedly have given people the opportunity to feel that in spite of the negative aspects of Jobs' behavior, Apple is where they wanted to be.

There are many things that give a tractor value. New York: Free Press, 1980; Porter, M. (2001, March). My judgment is that motivation, by itself, will not give this company enough of an edge to achieve your goals. In general firms that attempt to implement a cost-leadership strategy will choose to produce relatively simple standardized products that sell for relatively low prices compared to the products and prices of firms pursuing other business or corporate strategies.

While the ADKAR model may help in getting this alignment, I get the impression that in the first and second step we are trying to get the executive in synch with us when I believe our role is just the opposite. It also suggests more long-term thinking. Another project saying “What gets measured, gets managed” might hold a clue to helping find ways to make things more visible. Each of the subsequent change management plans and activities are guided by the findings in the change management strategy.
